Cantonese opera is the largest local opera in Guangdong. Popular in Guangdong, Cantonese-speaking Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao and places where overseas Chinese of Guangdong nationality live together. Originated from traditional Chinese opera tunes, it sprouted from musicians in the eight-tone class in the early years of Qing Daoguang. In the early stage of Tongzhi, the blind female artist "Shi Niang" inherited and matured. Later, it developed from playing singing to being accompanied by a band. The main musical instruments are Gao Hu, dulcimer, pipa, Qin Yue and suona.
