Anji has a long history and many historical sites. Ancheng town ancient city site is the seat of the county government in Qin and Han dynasties, and the ancient city wall has been preserved to this day. The walls of the ancient city were rammed with mud, and now there are walls all around, which are well preserved. The city is slightly square, with a length of more than 600 meters from east to west and a width of nearly 550 meters from north to south, covering an area of about 0.33 square kilometers. Qin and Han dynasties were one of the political, economic and cultural centers in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. From Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, Western Jin, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, a certain number of precious cultural relics with historical, academic and artistic values have been excavated here.
Lingfeng Temple, a famous temple in Anji, has been a gathering place for literati since Liang Daijian built the temple. Yang Weizhen, a famous writer and calligrapher in Yuan Dynasty, lived here in seclusion. Master Yi Shu, one of the "Four Great Monks" in Ming Dynasty and the host of Lingfeng Temple, was also a famous calligrapher. He left a Buddhist classic "On Lingfeng School" in Lingfeng Temple and died there.
