African giant snails can be as long as 20 cm and weigh more than 1 kg. They live in the tropical rain forests of West Africa and are generally considered as one of the largest land snails in the world. Most African snails are active in humid environment and like to haunt in the rain and at night. Usually hide in a cool place, make a layer of white film (fake cover) on the shell mouth, leaving only a small hole to breathe, shrink the snail meat into the shell to prevent dehydration, and then come out after the environment improves.

African snails are listed as one of the 100 invasive species in the world. It is one of the first 16 alien invasive species in China, and is listed in the List of Alien Invasive Species in China. It is extremely harmful to vegetables and other crops, and it is a second-class quarantine pest in China.

Habitat environment of African giant snails

The area suitable for the growth and reproduction of African giant snails is the low-heat valley below 800 meters above sea level. The suitable temperature for African snails is 15-38℃ and the soil moisture is 45%-85%. The optimum temperature is 20-32℃ and the soil humidity is 55%-75%. When the temperature is below 14℃ and the soil moisture is below 40%, or when the temperature is above 39℃ and the soil moisture is above 90%, the African giant snail will produce wax seals for dormancy or diapause.

The circulation of human activities and human carrying are the main ways of snail transmission in Africa; The accumulation of production and domestic garbage provides a place for African snails to inhabit and breed. I like humid environment. The living environment is land, mainly inhabiting vegetable fields, farmland, orchards, parks, rubber plantations, dark and humid environment with overgrown weeds, lush trees and crops, humus soil, haystacks, caves, fallen leaves of branches, stones and so on.
