1884: Iwasaki Yataro, founder of Mitsubishi, leased the state-owned Nagasaki Shipyard, the predecessor of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

1885: Yamazaki, the second-generation head of Mitsubishi chaebol, established Mitsubishi Corporation with Nagasaki Shipyard as its core enterprise.

During the Second World War, Mitsubishi manufactured a large number of aircraft, including the famous Zero fighter which participated in the Pearl Harbor incident. Like other Japanese companies at that time, Mitsubishi also used a lot of coolies during that time.
