The Academy of Fine Arts of Fujian Normal University was founded in 1941. Its predecessor was the Art Department of Fujian Normal University. The first department director was a famous Chinese international student. French art educator Professor Xie Touba.
On September 18, 1950, Fujian Provincial Normal College was changed to Fujian Normal School. In April 1951, the People's Government took over South China Women's College of Arts and Sciences and Fujian Union University, merging them into Fuzhou University. In August 1952, Fuzhou University merged with Fujian Normal College, still known as Fuzhou University. After the merger, the Art Department of Fuzhou University was adjusted. On September 5, 1953, the former Fuzhou University was renamed Fujian Normal University. In the same year, the art department was abolished and divided into a painting and cartography department and a music major. In 1958, the cartography major was placed under the Department of Physics, and the two majors of Art and Music were established as the Department of Art.
During the Cultural Revolution, the school suffered serious damage. The Art Department of Fujian Normal University was abolished in 1970 and resumed in June 1972. The college entrance examination was resumed in 1977. In January 1985, the college decided to abolish the Art Department and set up the Art Department and the Music Department. In December 1993, with the approval of the Fujian Provincial Education Commission, the School of Art was established based on the two departments of Fine Arts and Music. The Department of Fine Arts became one of the two departments affiliated with the School of Art.
In October 2001, the school approved the withdrawal of the department and established the Academy of Fine Arts of Fujian Normal University.
The college currently has a postdoctoral research station in art, a doctoral program in fine arts, and three master's degree programs: Fine Arts (Oil Painting, Chinese Painting, Decorative Painting), Design Art (Visual Communication, Environment art design direction, clothing engineering and design), art (art and culture direction); and 2 professional master's degrees, master of art and college teacher's master; 3 undergraduate majors: fine arts, art design, clothing engineering and design.
In 2007, the college had 867 full-time undergraduate students. There are 77 teachers, 13 professors, 18 associate professors, 31 lecturers and 12 teaching assistants. Senior professional titles account for 38%, intermediate professional titles account for 44%, and junior professional titles account for 18%. Under 35 years old account for 41.7%, 36-45 years old account for 30.6%, 46-55 years old account for 25%, and over 56 years old account for 2.7%, the average age 39.4 years old. At present, our hospital has formed a young and well-structured teaching staff.
The total construction area of ??the Academy of Fine Arts buildings on the new campus is 12,778.2 square meters, including 7,170.3 square meters of teaching buildings, 3,721.3 square meters of administrative buildings and exhibition halls, and 1,886.6 square meters of sculpture buildings; 37 classrooms, a clothing technology laboratory, and a lacquer building There are 15 art laboratories, animation laboratories, and ceramic craft laboratories. In addition, the college also owns the Chinese Painting Creation Research Center, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center, the Lacquer Art Research Center, the Sculpture Art Research Institute and the Fine Arts Research Institute. It has been awarded the "National Physical Education and Art Teacher Training Base" and the "National Vocational Teacher Training Base" by the Ministry of Education. In 2003, fine arts was rated as a key discipline in Fujian Province, and in 2005, design art was rated as a key discipline in the school.
In terms of scientific research, in the past five years, the discipline has won 15 national awards, 19 provincial and ministerial awards, and 2 university humanities awards. Teachers have published 544 papers in academic journals at all levels. All teachers in the school have published 79 academic monographs and picture albums, and recorded 10 national-level audio-visual textbooks and 136 episodes. *** Undertaken 26 scientific research projects, including 7 at the national level, 15 at the provincial and ministerial levels, and 4 projects commissioned by enterprises and public institutions. During the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period, 94 works of teachers from our college won awards in art exhibitions at or above the provincial level. Among them, in the 10th National Art Works Exhibition in 2004, 12 works of teachers from our school were selected, and their works won one gold, silver and bronze medal respectively; in the "First National Chinese Figure Painting Exhibition", teachers from the school won 1 silver medal (gold medal (vacant), 1 bronze medal; in 2003, Fujian Province selected 10 outstanding traditional Chinese painters to participate in the "Exhibition of Excellent Contemporary Traditional Chinese Painting Works" in Jinjing, accounting for 3 of them from our institute. In the first national college student art exhibition competition in 2005, students' works guided by teachers from our college won 2 first prizes and 1 second prize. The works of art design, fashion design and engineering students have won good results in national competitions, and many teachers have won the Outstanding Guidance Award and the Best Guidance Teacher Award.
In terms of external exchanges, the college has successively hired Liu Guosong, Quan Shanshi, Huang Zhou, Chen Shifa, Lai Shaoqi, Xue Yongnian, Shao Dazhen, Yi Ying, Cao Yiqiang, Ding Ning, Zhou Xing, Xu Ping, Chen Danqing and other famous scholars. Go to the college to give lectures and give on-site painting demonstrations. Nearly 30 teachers from our school have visited North America, Europe, Asia, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and other countries and regions for inspection visits, lectures or art exhibitions for artistic exchanges, and have received high praise from their foreign counterparts. The college has received experts and scholars from France, Belgium, Hungary, Finland, the United States, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan and other countries to give lectures in our college.
Among the teaching team, there are 17 members of the Chinese Artists Association and 32 members of the Fujian Artists Association. Some teachers also hold important positions in social organizations such as art associations and art committees at all levels. The professional title structure, age structure, and academic level of the college's teaching staff are becoming increasingly reasonable, gradually forming a good echelon situation, and having strong development potential.
