Nightwish (Nightwish, translated as "Hymn to Sunset" in Hong Kong and Taiwan) is a theater metal (bel canto metal) band from Finland founded in 1996. The lyrics to most of the band's songs were written by keyboardist Thomas Holopani, and the voice of former frontwoman Taya Turunni made Nightwish famous internationally. After Taya Turunni was fired in October 2005, they found Anette to take over, and also added bassist Marco Hietala. In addition to theater metal and nu metal, Nightwish's music style also has other musical elements. Thomas once described their music as "melodic metal with female vocals". In October 2012, the band's lead singer Anette Olzon announced her departure from the band. Former After Forever lead singer Floor Jansen became the band's lead singer, and British composer, Irish elbow bagpipe and tin whistle player Troy Donockley became a permanent member.
