Zhou Bichang, Zheng Yuan, Yin Zheng. The predecessor of Xinghai Conservatory of Music was Guangzhou Music School founded in October 1957; it was established as Guangzhou Music College in September 1958; it merged with Guangdong Dance School to form Guangdong Art College in January 1966; it merged with Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in October 1970 It was the Guangdong People's Art Institute; in March 1978, it was renamed Guangzhou Music College; in June 1981, it was approved by the State Council as Guangzhou Conservatory of Music; in December 1985, it was renamed Xinghai Conservatory of Music in memory of People's Musician Xian Xinghai. The school insists on cultivating people with moral integrity and has a teaching staff with reasonable structure, excellent quality and determination to innovate. As of March 2023, there are 633 faculty and staff in the university department. Since its establishment, the school has educated a large number of outstanding graduates, such as Liao Huan, Zhou Bichang, Zheng Yuan, Yin Zheng, etc.
