Baotu Spring

Introduction to attractions

Baotu Spring is one of the three major scenic spots in Jinan, located in Jinan, Shandong Province Located in Lixia District of the city, it is adjacent to Quancheng Square in the east and Wulongtan in the north. It ranks first among the 72 famous springs in Jinan. During Emperor Qianlong's tour to the south, he named Baotu Spring "the best spring in the world" because of the mellow and sweet taste of tea made from Baotu Spring water. It is also the first famous spring in Jinan to be found in ancient documents.

Baotu Spring is located in front of Luoyuan Hall in Baotu Spring Park. It is adjacent to Luoyuan Hall in the north, Guanlan Pavilion in the west, Laihe Bridge in the east, and surrounded by a corridor in the south. The spring water gushes out from the underground limestone cave, and 70,000 cubic meters of spring water gush out every day. The spring water has three outlets, and the maximum water inflow is 162,000 meters per day. The water in Baotu Spring is constant at around 18℃ throughout the year. The places of interest around Baotu Spring include Luoyuan Hall, Guanlan Pavilion, Shangzhi Hall, Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall, Li Kuchan Memorial Hall and other attractions.

(1) Catkin Spring

Liu Catkin Spring is the author of the "Famous Spring Stele" of the Jin Dynasty and the "Seventy-two Springs Poems" of Yan Bi of the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the "Seventy-two Famous Springs" in Jinan recorded in "Seventy-Two Springs" by Hao Zhigong in the Qing Dynasty. Located in the south of Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall in Baotu Spring Park and east of Shuyu Spring, it belongs to the "Baotu Spring Group". According to the "Landscape Examination·3" in Volume 8 of "Licheng County Chronicle" quoted from the old "Chronicles", it says: "Catkin Spring is located in the southeast corner of today's Xianquan. The foam in the spring is numerous, like catkins flying", hence the name "Catkin". There are willow trees beside the spring, and the water in the pool is crystal clear and flows continuously. There are countless fish swimming in the water. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the cool scenery in summer.

(2) Turtle Stone

Leaving Mapao Spring and the nearby Qianjing Spring, walking slowly south, you will see an exquisite and clear Taihu Stone standing face to face. This Taihu stone is called Guishi. It is a relic of Yunzhuang, the villa of Zhang Yanghao, a Sanqu master in the Yuan Dynasty, in Beiyuan. According to research, there were 10 beautiful stones in Yunzhuang at that time, which were called "Ten Friends". Among them, the four spiritual stones of dragon, phoenix, turtle and lin were particularly famous. After the Ming Dynasty, it was moved to the Huangting, Confucius Temple and Baotu Spring in Jinan City.

(3) Laihe Bridge

This bridge was originally a wooden bridge, running vertically from north to south, on the east bank of Baotu Spring Pool and southwest of Wanghe Pavilion. It was built by Zhang Heming, the prefect of Licheng during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It was rebuilt by Fan Shiying, the prefect of Jinan during the Tianqi period. It was rebuilt again by Chenggong, the supervisor of the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. They are all made of wood and were later changed to flat stone bridges. When Baotu Spring Park was expanded in 1964, the stone slabs were replaced. In 1975, carved stone railings were installed on both sides of the bridge.

(4) Pengshan Jiujifang

It is also called "Laihefang". Come to the south end of Heqiao on the east side of Baotu Spring. It was built by Fan Shiying, the prefect of Jinan during the Tianqi period of the Ming Dynasty. It is a two-column, one-story building with a single column of blue tiles, supported by brackets and decorated with kissing beasts. There are plaques "Dongtian Blessed Land" and "Penglai Old Relics" hanging in the north and south.
