Shenyang Conservatory of Music is the only higher music and art college with a long history and glorious tradition in Northeast China. She originated from the Yan'an Lu Xun Art Institute, the first art school of our party, initiated and founded by the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries such as Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai in 1938. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the college moved from Yan'an to Northeast China and settled in Shenyang. In 1958, it was renamed Shenyang Conservatory of Music. The first dean was the famous composer and music educator Li Jiefu, and the current dean is the famous tenor singer and music educator Liu Hui.

In the 75 years since its establishment, the college has trained a large number of music and dance talents for the country and made important contributions to my country's cultural undertakings and art education. The college has four undergraduate teaching campuses: the main campus, the South Campus, the Taoxian Campus, and the Dalian Campus, as well as the Affiliated Middle School Music School and the Affiliated Middle School Dance School. On the basis of the traditional majors in music performance, musicology, composition and composition technology theory, dance performance, dance studies, and dance choreography, majors such as performance, radio and television choreography, and broadcasting and hosting arts have also been opened. Currently, undergraduate talents are trained in more than 70 professional directions.

The college has the right to confer master's degrees in two first-level disciplines, music and dance and art theory, awarded by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. It is among the first batch of masters of arts (MFA) approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

After years of development and construction, the college has established a multi-level music and dance and other arts education system with undergraduate and postgraduate education as the main body, continuing education as the supplement, and secondary professional education as the basis. It has established friendly relations with art groups. Among them, it has signed friendly cooperation agreements with more than 30 famous foreign higher music schools, including the Stuttgart Conservatory of Music in Germany, the Boston University School of Music in the United States, and the Tokyo University of Music in Japan.
