In the early 1950s, a heroic group - the "Ma Hengchang Group" became famous throughout the country and led to a fierce patriotic labor competition that swept across the land of China.

"Ma Hengchang Group" was originally a group of Shenyang Fifth Machinery Factory. In November 1948, Shenyang had just been liberated. The older generation of workers in this group worked desperately to complete batches of military production tasks despite constant harassment and bombing by enemy planes. They also took the lead in initiating the Red May Labor Competition to all factory workers, and won the red flag of the "Model Class for Production Competition" on April 28, 1949 with excellent results. At the flag presentation ceremony, this group was officially named "Ma Hengchang Group", with Ma Hengchang as the group leader.

Ma Hengchang said to the workers: "The working class must use its own exemplary actions to drive the people across the country to build socialism." Since then, they have continuously set new production records and won awards for their meritorious service many times. After the outbreak of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea in 1951, the "Ma Hengchang Group" issued an initiative to carry out patriotic labor competition to employees across the country through the Workers' Daily. In a short period of time, it received positive responses from 18,000 teams across the country, and many companies Labor productivity doubled or even increased tenfold, which quickly restored the national economy and effectively supported the movement to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea.
