Shanghai Old Street is located in the box of the old city in Huangpu District, Shanghai, where the gate of Xiaodongmen is located. Due to historical reasons, the city gate has not been preserved, but the nine gates around the city in the old city are still deeply rooted in the hearts of Shanghainese.
Walking into Shanghai's old streets is like returning to the bustling market in Shanghai 100 years ago. There used to be a group of the earliest banks, gold shops, silver houses, restaurants, teahouses, theaters and merchants in Shanghai, which is the street that best reflects the ancient feelings of Shanghai and also the gathering place of 365 folk customs.
Today, this street is more like a history book about Shanghai, with Guan Yi Street as the boundary and divided into two parts. The eastern section retains the residential features of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, such as lattice windows, door panels and railings. On both sides, add cornices on the roof, lace dripping water and horse head wall. The facade of the house in the west section is a unified imitation of Ming and Qing architecture, with tile walls and red columns and cornices, which highlights the folk customs of old Shanghai and shows the cultural evolution of old Shanghai from Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China from west to east.
