History and culture
Beiliu, known as "the capital of daily-use ceramics in China", has been producing ceramics for two thousand years. On 2011August 3 1, the expert group of China Ceramic Industry Association agreed to award Beiliu the title of "China Ceramic City". Beiliu ceramics originated in Xia and Shang Dynasties. According to the existing archaeological data, primitive pottery appeared in Lingnan area in the middle and late Neolithic period.
The stone culture in Liu Ma Village, Xinxu, the earliest ancient human site in Beiliu, has no pottery except stone shovels and axes. From Xia Dynasty to Shang Dynasty, with the continuous progress of agricultural production, private ownership sprouted, and private pottery workshops appeared in Beiliu River Basin, which was located in a remote place in the south, but no artifacts were unearthed in Beiliu.
