Content introduction:
This book is one of the Japanese Toastmasters "History of China" series "Late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China".
The History of China is a centenary gift to Toastmasters in Japan, and a general history of China written by Japanese historians for the public. From ancient times to modern times, the series covers a lot of content, and the authors are all representative scholars in this field in Japan. Most of the works are ingenious, fluent, novel and insightful, but at the same time, they absorb many academic achievements in recent years and adopt the latest unearthed historical materials, which is a set of heavy historical masterpieces with both readability and seriousness.
The author of this volume describes the period from the middle of19th century to 1936 as an era, and summarizes the history of this period as "attempting to revive China". The author points out that there are differences and connections between local cultures in China, and tries to re-understand this era from the perspective of the new era wind blowing from southern Xinjiang. He believes that the characters in this book, such as Hong Xiuquan, Sun Yat-sen and his successor Chiang Kai-shek, all started from southern Xinjiang and later participated in the Northern Expedition. The border revolution in Mao Zedong, which started from the southern rural base areas, also sowed the seeds of a new era all the way to Yan 'an on the Loess Plateau. Although the narrative of political history is the main clue in the book, the author still pays special attention to culture, and describes the cultural exchange between China and China with more pen and ink, which provides a new reader for us to understand the modern history of China.
