Bai Juyi (772 ~ 846), whose name was Lotte, was a Buddhist in Xiangshan. Originally from Taiyuan, he moved to Xiaao (now Weinan City, Shaanxi Province) and was born in Xinzheng, Henan Province. Tang Dezong was a scholar in the 16th year of Zhenyuan (800). In his later years, he served as an official with the minister of punishments, and was divided into the eastern capital with the prince, serving as a prince and a juvenile fu, and entered Fengyi County. He was an active advocate of the new Yuefu movement at that time. Bai Juyi was a great realistic poet and an outstanding poet in the Tang Dynasty. His poems have vivid artistic images and simple and natural language. Some of his lyric quatrains are clear, beautiful and distinctive. There is Bai Changqing Collection.

Song of Eternal Sorrow is a famous work by Bai Juyi, which was written in the first year of Yuanhe (806), when Bai Juyi was a county magistrate in Zhouzhi. This poem was written by him and his friends Chen Hong and Wang Zhifu who visited Xianyou Temple and felt the love story between Xuanzong and Yang Guifei in the Tang Dynasty. Yang Guifei was originally the daughter-in-law of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, but Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty saw that she was beautiful and good at singing and dancing, so he took her as his concubine. Since then, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty has been eating, drinking and having fun with Yang Guifei all day long, regardless of state affairs, and appointed Yang Guifei's younger brother as prime minister. In 755 AD, An Lushan launched a rebellion, and Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty fled to the west with Yang Guifei. When they fled to Maweipo, the soldiers of the Tang Dynasty unanimously demanded the execution of Yang and Yang Guifei, the main culprits of the accident. Tang Xuanzong was forced to hang Yang Guifei. The poet used this history for reference, but he didn't stick to it. But with the help of a little historical shadow, according to the legend of people at that time, the singing of the neighborhood became a touching love story.
