Its owner, william randolph hearst, is a newspaper tycoon who inherited his father's business. His "yellow news" report and inflammatory writing style promoted the development of American newspaper industry in the 20th century, making William a newspaper tycoon with more than 30 newspapers and magazines. The huge industry brought huge profits, which made this castle rise from Santa Lucia Yamanoue on the west coast of the United States.
Due to the natural barrier of Mount Saint Lucia, the area is sparsely populated. After William's father bought this piece of land of 1000 square kilometers in 1865, it became a place for their family to camp in their leisure time. Subsequently, William inherited this area from his mother in 19 19.
19 19, William found Julia Morgan, the first female architect who graduated from the Paris National Academy of Arts, and sought advice on building a building on this hill. At first, he just wanted this "battalion" to continue to perform its duties and build a small house for rest on the top of the mountain 8 kilometers away from the foot of the mountain. But when William was old, on second thought, the idea of building a small house on the top of the mountain became a big plan to build a permanent luxury house. This brought Hershey Castle, which was not completed until 1947, with a total construction area of over 8,000 square meters.

In hershey Castle, you can see that the exterior wall and the top of the tower are decorated with symmetrical and exquisite stone carvings, which have the style of Renaissance church, which William applied in his castle with reference to the architectural style of Iberian Peninsula in Europe. There are a large number of magnificent woodcarving ceilings and rare books in the castle. It was William who moved his private treasure house into this new building that belonged to him, thus dyeing the whole Hershey Castle with a strong baroque style.

195 1 After William died, his descendants could not afford the maintenance cost of the castle and donated the whole castle and its ancillary facilities to the California government. 1954, it became California state park, and the artistic value of this building was displayed to the public. Maintenance costs are still high today: including but not limited to building maintenance, swimming pool water exchange and tourism management, the average daily cost exceeds 1 10,000 USD. It is difficult to maintain this "state park" only by the entrance fee, and the funds here also come from some social funds.
It is clearly stipulated in the brochure of Hershey Castle that photos are allowed inside and outside the castle and can be put online, but if it is used for publication or commercial purposes, a written application is required. In history, many filmmakers who wanted to shoot here were rejected, which also reflected the preciousness of this castle.
Sigma 14mm f 1.8 lens still has excellent imaging quality under the maximum aperture, which is an excellent tool to perfectly reflect the artistic value of this castle. This luxurious lens is worthy of the material and historical luxury of this castle.
The following is a picture I took with this lens in the dark environment of the castle. Because of the image quality of Sigma 14mm f 1.8 lens, I can safely reduce the iso of hand-held shooting.
Photographed in the old castle restaurant, the ceiling over 10 meters high is covered with wood carvings:

I have to mention one thing here. In a dark indoor environment, shooting with a large aperture can set the sensitivity low enough. If you shoot with other wide-angle lenses with smaller aperture, it is impossible to do it by hand under iso 100. Thanks to the aperture of this lens f 1.8, it has become a reality to hold it indoors to iso 100.
Low sense is very important for the retrieval of dark details. My 5d3 fuselage has a flat tolerance, but the Sigma 14mm f 1.8 lens obviously makes up for this shortcoming. The unprocessed photos in the above picture are as follows, which shows the great advantages of using low iso indoors.
A wall decorated with art;
Aperture F 1.8 shutter 1/6S sensitivity ISO 400 (at 14 mm, this shutter speed is already the limit of my hand, and it took me many times to reach it).
Billiards room:

A piano outside the billiards room should also be one of William's collections:
Aperture F 1.8 shutter 1/8S sensitivity iso400.
After arriving at the theater, I walked out of the castle and completed the tour of the open area of the castle. In the midday sun, let's take a look at the performance of this lens after narrowing the aperture.
Aperture F4 shutter 1/320S sensitivity iso 100
Aperture F8 shutter 1/320S sensitivity iso 100
It can be seen that the quality of this lens is close to perfection under the f8 aperture. The consistent sharpness from the center to the edge, almost invisible dark corners, and glare much better than that under full aperture all mark the extraordinary quality of this lens. In addition, the star shape of this lens is not round enough, but it is also beautiful enough-the polygon star shape brought by the 9-leaf aperture is clear and debatable.
Before driving down the mountain, you will pass by an indoor swimming pool. There is a guardrail near the swimming pool to prevent tourists from entering. When this platform is used as a tripod, the shutter speed is much smaller than that of holding it. We use low sensitivity and narrow aperture indoors here, and then look at the detail reduction ability of this lens. By the way, we can simply use the grid texture of the ground and walls to understand the distortion control of this lens.

Aperture F4 shutter 1/6S sensitivity iso 100

Aperture F4 shutter 1/60S sensitivity iso 100
Needless to say, the same sharp image quality, grid texture is very clear. In terms of distortion, there is no correction in the later stage, which shows that this lens has a certain barrel distortion. However, considering that this is a lens with a viewing angle of 14mm, the degree of distortion is completely acceptable. Although the propaganda focus of distortion control did not give this lens, but fell on the head of 14-24mm f2.8, thanks to the similar large aperture aspheric lens front group, I think the distortion control of this lens still belongs to the first-class level.
After learning about the history of the castle and enjoying the architectural scenery, the outstanding advantages of this lens are also shown to everyone through these photos. The lens quality exceeds Canon 14mmf2.8, Nikon 14-24mmf2.8 and other similar specifications. At the same time, the highly competitive price makes this lens a rare creative weapon for indoor photographers. If you can lift this1100g "fitness equipment", you can accept the protruding front lens, and Sigma 14mmf 1.8 will definitely be your good partner.
