Burning Zhao Jialou-19 19 Historical Event
1965438+On May 2, 2009, the news of the diplomatic failure of the Paris Peace Conference and China reached Beijing, and the students of Beijing Normal University were furious. The students quickly prepared for the assembly and parade, while some activists secretly planned to take violent actions beyond the legal norms. On the night of May 3rd, Peking University held a meeting attended by all students and representatives of 13 middle school in Beihe fake auditorium, and decided to hold an academic demonstration meeting the next day. At the same time, members of the Institute of Technology of Beijing Normal University also held a secret party in the West Flower Hall at the north end of the school playground. When discussing the form of demonstration at the meeting, some students advocated holding an ordinary demonstration, while others thought they had to take part in the riot. The proposal to start a riot was passed in anger. But how to riot and what weapons to use, the participants did not carefully consider, just asked individuals to find their own way. The students managed to get photos of three pro-Japanese groups, Cao Rulin and Lu, in the photo studio near Dashilan, Qianmen, in order to prove something during the riots. The students also decided to take iron, small cans of kerosene and matches to prepare for destruction and fire. Kuang, a fourth-grade student in the Department of Mathematics of Beijing Normal University, was elected as the person in charge of the meeting and set up a secret action group. Some students even entrust the funeral to their relatives and friends. As the trade union is a secret activity of a small group, except for a few students who participated in the core group during the May 4th Movement, most students did not expect that there would be violent incidents such as burning Zhao Jialou and beating Zhang Zongxiang. On the evening of May 4th, at about 1, more than 3,000 students from more than a dozen schools in Beijing gathered in front of Jinshui Bridge in Tiananmen Square to give a speech to protest against Japanese imperialist aggression and Beiyang government's traitorous behavior. Congress decided to demonstrate to embassies of various countries, and then petitioned the presidential palace, demanding that the traitors Cao Rulin and He Lv be punished and refusing to sign the Paris Peace Treaty. After a short rally, the procession headed for the embassy district. At the west entrance of Dongjiaomin Lane, the procession was forcibly stopped by foreign patrol houses and Beiyang government military police for two hours. The students were extremely indignant. After they submitted a statement to the American embassy, they decided to go to the traitor Cao Rulin's house to demonstrate. When the parade arrived at the gate of Cao Zhai, it was about 4 pm. When the May 4th Patriotic Movement broke out, Xu Shichang, President of Beijing government, hosted a banquet in honor of Zhang Zongxiang who had just returned from Japan. Qian Nengxun, Cao Rulin, Lu and others attended. When the news came that students marched against traitors, Cao and others were advised to stay in the government for a while, but they ignored this advice and thought that the gendarmerie could completely suppress students with their bare hands. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, Cao and Zhang returned to Cao Zhai in Hutong, and the public security bureau chief Wu Bingxiang sent 200 policemen to guard Cao Zhai. Therefore, when the students arrived in Zhao Jialou, there were many policemen inside and outside Cao Zhai, and the doors and windows were closed. The students shouted slogans and had an argument with the police when knocking at the door. While arguing with the police and propagating patriotic ideas to them, the students walked around the room, trying to break into houses. Several students who were preparing to sacrifice jumped on the fence, smashed the iron gate, rushed into the yard, opened the gate, and the students rushed into Cao Mansion. In desperation, one of Cao and Zhang hid in the box and the other in the boiler room. The students searched for Cao and Zhang in the hall, but in a rage, they threw some furniture displayed in the hall out of the room, took off the hanging statue of the Japanese emperor and fell to the ground. Kuang Sheng took out the matches he had brought in advance and lit a fire in the living room. After the fire, when Zhang Zongxiang jumped out of the boiler room and ran to the back door, he was surrounded and beaten by students on the spot. Students poked him in the head with flagpoles, and Zhang Zongxiang was killed. He was able to escape after being rescued by a Japanese from the back door. Half an hour later, Cao's house caught fire. In the evening, students from various schools in Beijing also gathered to discuss how to rescue the arrested students and how to persist in the struggle. Cai Yuanpei attended the student conference at Peking University, expressing sympathy for the student movement, and said that he would be responsible for rescuing the arrested students, but advised students not to strike. Students in Peking University didn't take Cai's advice. From May 5th, students from technical secondary schools and above in Beijing will go on strike and gather all forces to ask for support. Principals of more than a dozen schools in Beijing formed a principal group headed by Cai Yuanpei to rescue the arrested students. However, when the headmaster's group negotiated with the Beiyang Government Police Department, the Ministry of Education, the State Council and the Presidential Palace to release the students, they were all rejected. The news shocked the whole country. Students from Tianjin, Shanghai and other places and people from all walks of life called in succession, urging the Beiyang government to release the students quickly. Beijing celebrities Wang Daheng, Wang Chonghui and Lin Changmin also jointly wrote a letter to bail the arrested students. Under the appeal and pressure from all walks of life, on the morning of May 7, the arrested students were released and returned to school, which was warmly welcomed by teachers and students of all schools.
