The establishment background of the first automobile factory
1949 12. During President Mao Zedong's visit to the Soviet Union, China and the Soviet Union agreed that the Soviet Union would fully assist China in building the first truck factory. After more than a year's investigation and comparison of various schemes, 195 1 year, the central government and the central people's government decided to locate the first automobile factory in the suburbs of Changchun City, Jilin Province.

On July 5th, 1953, a grand foundation laying ceremony was held on the flat ground of the former site of the First Automobile Factory. During the first five-year plan period, the First Automobile Factory completed the capital construction investment of 620 million yuan, with the capital construction completed area of 750,000 square meters, industrial buildings of 465,438+110,000 square meters, dormitories of 399,000 square meters, 20,000 sets of machinery and equipment installed, more than 30 kilometers of railways laid, 80,000 meters of pipelines and tens of thousands of sets of manufacturing technology and equipment. On July 3rd, 1956, the first batch of domestic cars named "Jiefang" in Mao Zedong were successfully trial-produced.

The "Jiefang" car produced by Changchun No.1 Automobile Factory was designed and manufactured on the basis of the Giss 150 car produced by the Soviet Union, and some structures were improved according to the actual situation in China. This car is equipped with a 90-horsepower six-cylinder gasoline engine with a top speed of 65 kilometers per hour and a load of 4 tons. It is not only suitable for the load conditions of roads and bridges in China at that time, but also can be converted into a variant car suitable for various special purposes as required. The first batch of cars have passed the driving test, which proves that the performance is good and meets the design requirements.
