Yu Meiren was written before Li Yu was poisoned. It was the third year (978) of the peaceful rejuvenation of the country by Emperor Taizong of the Northern Song Dynasty, and Li Yu returned to the Song Dynasty for nearly three years. In the eighth year of Song Taizu Kaibao (975), Song Jun attacked Jinling, the capital of Nantang, Li Yufeng surrendered and Nantang perished.
Three years later, that is, three years of peaceful rejuvenation, Xu Xuan was ordered by Song Taizong to visit Li Yu, and Li Yu sighed at Xu Xuan: "I regret killing Pan You and Li Ping by mistake!" It is probably in this state of mind that Li Yu wrote the word "Yu Meiren".
Yu Meiren's poems reveal her undisguised yearning for her motherland. The whole word begins with asking questions, ends with answering questions, ends with asking questions, and ends with asking yourself and answering questions. Through the intense tone of sadness and the free and tortuous artistic structure, the author's melancholy runs through and forms a refreshing aesthetic effect. It is said that this sentence is also one of the reasons that prompted Song Taizong to order the poisoning of Li Yu, and it is Li Yu's desperate words.
