Compared with the fourth national census in 1990, the population of Han nationality increased by116.92 million, an increase of1/0.22%, and the population of ethnic minorities increased by15.23 million, an increase of/kloc-. The proportion of Han population in the total population decreased from 9 1.99% to 9 1.59%, and the proportion of minority population increased from 8.0 1% to 8.4 1%.
The Han nationality can be divided into seven ethnic groups, namely, northern ethnic group, Minhai ethnic group, Guangfu ethnic group, Jiangyou ethnic group, Hakka ethnic group, Huxiang ethnic group and Wu ethnic group. In addition, it can be subdivided into different branches according to the region, such as northern Fujian, Fuzhou, Xinghua, southern Fujian, Longyan, Chaoshan, Leizhou and Hainan.
The Kokang people in Myanmar, the Ai people in Vietnam and the Mingxiang people also belong to a branch of the Han nationality. Traditional western anthropology classifies the Han nationality as an East Asian race.
Extended data:
Minority population growth rate
After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), due to the abolition of the ethnic oppression system, the development of production and the improvement of life, the medical and health undertakings have been greatly improved, and at the same time, the requirements of the state for family planning of ethnic minorities are more relaxed than those of the Han nationality, thus fundamentally reversing the downward trend of the ethnic minority population in the past, and a scene of population prosperity and national prosperity has emerged.
1990-2000, the average annual growth rate of Tujia, Gaoshan, Qiang, Maonan, Baoan and Dongxiang nationalities was above 2.00%, with Gaoshan and Qiang nationalities reaching 4.3 1% and 4.26% respectively. The average annual population growth rate of eight ethnic groups with a population of over one million, such as Mongolia, Tibet and Uygur, is also between 1.40%-2.00%, which is higher than the national average population growth rate of 0.9 1%.
With the acceleration of the population growth of ethnic minorities, the proportion of ethnic minorities in the total population of the country has also increased accordingly. During the period of 1964- 1982, 1982- 1990 and 1990-2000, the proportion of ethnic minorities in the total population of China increased from 5.8% to 6.7% and 8.0/respectively.
Although the population of ethnic minorities is less than 10% of the total population in China, they are widely distributed, and the area of ethnic minority autonomous areas accounts for more than 60% of the whole country. Due to historical and geographical reasons, there is a big gap in population density between ethnic minority areas and inland coastal Han areas. For example, the population density of Xizang Autonomous Region, where ethnic minorities live in compact communities, is only 65,438+0.8 people per square kilometer.
