Yan Fu, male, formerly known as Zi Ling, later renamed Fu Zi, Han nationality, from Houguan County, Fujian Province, was an influential bourgeois enlightenment thinker in modern times, a famous translator and educator, and a representative of the New Legalist School.
He graduated from Fujian Ship Administration School and Royal Naval Academy successively, and served as the general manager of the Translation Bureau of Shi Jing University, the dean of Shanghai Fudan College, the dean of Anqing Normal College, and the editor-in-chief of the Qing Dynasty Terminology Institute. During his teaching in Beiyang Naval Academy founded by Li Hongzhang, he trained the first batch of naval talents in modern China and translated the theory of evolution.
