Development history of Cangnan fishing drum
In the Southern Song Dynasty, fishing drums and simple wooden boards were used as props, among which the fishing drums were named after being made of shark skin. The local fishing drum in Cangnan is said to have been introduced from southern Fujian in ancient times. According to the Records of Pingyang County written by Qing Qianlong, Minnan people moved to Cangnan and Dongtou on a large scale three times in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and the fishing drum, a folk rap form of Han nationality, followed. The fishing drum introduced into Cangnan merged with Taoism and other arts introduced from the Central Plains, forming the art form of "Cangnan Fishing Drum". It was once popular in southern Fujian dialect areas such as Cangnan, Pingyang and Dongtou, and was mainly popular in Lingxi, Qiaopier, Fanshan, Mazhan, Xizao and Chixi in Cangnan County. Simple playing conditions and easy-to-understand rap forms made fishing drums one of the main ways of cultural entertainment for Han working people in remote mountainous areas before the 1960s.
