History of Yongning ancient city
According to the investigation of cultural relics experts, Yongningfu ancient city has played an extremely important role in the military in the long history of more than 500 years, and is a battleground for military strategists. Every time the regime changes, the ancient city of Yongningfu will inevitably encounter a war disaster. But it is a miracle that it can survive more than 500 years of ups and downs and be relatively intact.

Yongningfu ancient city is located in the dangerous zone from Guilin to Rong 'an, and only one ancient road passes through the Grand Canyon here. The ancient city was built at the pass of the ancient road, with natural rivers as moats on both sides and dozens of kilometers of mountains around it. Six kilometers to the north, there is a dangerous pass that stretches for more than ten kilometers-Santai Mountain Range (formerly known as Sanerling). The ancient city of Yongning Prefecture is located on the ancient road under Santailing Pass. Such as a pass, you can enter and attack, retreat and defend, and the situation is like a broken bamboo. One person can defend it, and ten thousand people can't. According to Yongfu County Records, in the fifth year of Hongzhi in Ming Dynasty (1492), the Zhuang peasant uprising team led by Wei, Qin Wanxian and Wei captured Yongningfu ancient city for more than 80 years, making this ancient city in the mountains once the center of peasant uprising in Guangxi.

In the 11th year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1672), the South and North Towers were destroyed by fire, and the walls collapsed in many places, which was later restored. In the thirty-eighth year of Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty (1902), an anti-Qing struggle broke out nearby, and the anti-Qing team marched into Yongning House, which put the city in jeopardy. The Qing dynasty urgently sent large troops to reinforce the ancient city.

In the Republic of China 12, local bandit Wei Houfan was recruited by Guilin Autonomous Army and stationed in Yongning Ancient City, claiming to be a county magistrate, paying taxes and distributing grain to the people, causing civil unrest. Thousands of local people, armed with broadswords, spears and torches, violently attacked the ancient city for days on end. However, because Shicheng is strong, it is difficult to capture. After besieging the ancient city for seven days and seven nights, Wei Jiugou was forced to surrender to the mob.

In the 24th year of the Republic of China, people in Zhong (Du), Rong (An) and Bai (Shou) counties opposed the policy of "Three Ones and Three Accommodations" and "National Military Training" implemented in Guangxi, and a young man in Rong (An) county evaded conscription and was shot by the government, which provoked an explosion of seven or eight thousand people. On August 26th of that year, more than two thousand people attacked the ancient city of Yongning. However, due to poor weapons, the masses could not break through the solid and tall stone city for a while. After the Kuomintang troops arrived, the siege people were forced to disperse quickly and flee everywhere.

In 33 years of the Republic of China, Japanese invaders invaded Yongning ancient city twice and occupied it for 8 months. During this period, the Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Forces fought against the Japanese 160 times.

In 38 years of the Republic of China, the whole country was close to liberation. The Kuomintang's "Guangxi Anti-Communist National Salvation Army" has two divisions, and more than 5,000 people from the Seventh Army 172 Division have retreated for a hundred years in an attempt to seize the ancient city for tenacious resistance. The 146th and 147th Divisions of the 49th Army of China People's Liberation Army will be surrounded by Bai Shou. In order to protect people's lives and property, the People's Liberation Army advised the enemy to surrender for a long time. More than 10,000 enemies laid down their weapons and surrendered in desperation. The ancient city was not bombarded by artillery, so it was completely preserved.
