The Historical Story of Changchun Garden
Changchun Garden is the first royal garden built by Emperor Kangxi, the holy father of Qing Dynasty, in the northwest suburb of Beijing. Its predecessor was Tsinghua Campus, which was built in the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty (different from Tsinghua Campus in Tsinghua University today). After a hundred years of wind and rain, except for the two mountain gates of Enyou Temple and Mu 'en Temple, the former grand occasion of Changchun Garden has long since disappeared. Its former site is roughly outside the western wall of Peking University, south of Weixiu Garden and Chengze Garden, west of Wanquanhe Road and south of Shuangqiao East Road. In the northwest of its former site, there are Peking University No.2 Middle School Teaching Building and Peking University Staff Dormitory Residential Area. Among several ancient gardens related to Peking University campus, Changchun Garden is the latest one that became attached to Peking University, but it is the most outstanding one in terms of its history and status. Talking about history, tracing back to the source, Tsinghua Campus, the predecessor of Changchun Garden, was built in the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty at the latest (1582), earlier than Yuan Shaoyuan Garden; As far as status is concerned, Changchun Garden is the first large-scale "royal garden" built by Emperor Kangxi in the west of Beijing, while other gardens are all "given by the royal family", with obviously lower grade specifications. In terms of influence, the influence of Changchun Garden at that time and later was incomparable to other gardens. After Kangxi built Changchun Garden, Yongzheng and Qianlong built Yuanmingyuan and Qingyi Garden (later Summer Palace) on this basis. In the fifteenth year of Qianlong (1750), Qingyi Garden was completed, forming a huge "three mountains and five gardens" royal garden area such as Xiangshan, Yuquan Mountain, Wanshou Mountain, Changchun Garden, Jingming Garden, Jingyi Garden, Yuanmingyuan Garden and Qingyi Garden. Thus becoming an unprecedented and unparalleled huge palace garden in the history of China. In the construction history of 100, Emperor Kangxi's initiative is very important, and the original work of Changchun Garden can not be ignored. Since Changchun Garden is so important, what was it like before? And what are the historical news related to it? To answer these questions, we have to start with the geographical location and feng shui characteristics of Haidian area.
