The hospital was founded on 1950. Its predecessor was the Health Care Center directly under the Health Department of Zhejiang Province, which was formed by the merger of a convalescent team of the People's Liberation Army, the Health Department of Zhejiang Provincial People's Government and the provincial outpatient department. After several changes, it became the third people's hospital of Hangzhou.

When the former health center directly under the Health Department of Zhejiang Province was established, the total number of employees was 9 1 person, and the beds were 100, which was divided into four wards: internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and tuberculosis, and the outpatient medical room was only 1000 square meters. 1984 in may, the outpatient comprehensive building of the four-story hospital was completed, and the medical room was increased to 4000 square meters, which improved the outpatient conditions. In the following 10 year, the hospital initially developed into a municipal secondary general hospital with complete clinical and medical departments.

Since the second half of 1995, with the support of the Party Committee of Hangzhou Municipal Health Bureau, the leading group of the hospital has put forward a brand-new idea of "building a comprehensive hospital with specialized characteristics led by dermatology", adjusting the medical structure, expanding the specialty and special disease characteristics of dermatology, anorectum and ophthalmology, strengthening the basic construction of internal surgery, expanding the preparation room and establishing computers.
