The Human History of Xincun Street in Cao Yang
In the past, the territory was the main area where Wusong River flooded and diverted. At the end of 19, Caochangpu obliquely runs through the middle, with Xujiabang in the north, Xilupu and Laowusong River in the south and Wusongjiang River in the west, with large and small rivers and ponds all over the territory. There are Caojiadu, Tanjiadu and Xiaoshadu along the river to communicate cross-strait traffic. The whole territory is rural, with villages such as Yejiazhai, Tanshangzhai and Shenjiazhai. The villagers grow grain and cotton for a living. In the 25th year of Guangxu reign (1899), the land east of Jiaozhou Road was occupied as a public concession. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Ministry of Concession built Xiaoshadu Road (now Xikang Road), Robert Sheng Road (now changshou road) and Binglang Road (now Anyuan Road) in China. At the same time, foreign businessmen used this privilege to set up factories in Wusong, Jiang Nanan. Since then, national capitalists have also set up factories in China. A large number of working people came here to make a living, and built simple houses, grass shed or rolled earthworm in the area of Shuiyao Lane in the north of the city, forming a famous shantytown in Shuiyao Lane in the city. By the 1920s and 1930s, there were nearly 20 large and medium-sized factories mainly engaged in textile industry, which was one of the main areas in the western industrial zone of Shanghai. With the increasing number of residents and the disappearance of rivers and farmland, the areas around Robert Road, Xiaoshadu Road and Caojiadu have gradually formed a prosperous commercial market, and the whole area has become a part of the western urban area of Shanghai. Before liberation, except for the area along the river in the north, which was occupied by several large factories, most other areas were residential areas where simple houses and factories were intertwined. In 34 years of the Republic of China (1945), when the city was built, the organizational district was its jurisdiction.
