Rococo style background
Rococo style originated in France in the18th century, and was originally developed to oppose the red tape art of the court. The word rococo in rococo is a combination of French Rocaille and coquilles. Rocaille is an indoor decoration made of shells and pebbles, while coquilles is a shell. Rococo was later replaced by neoclassicism.

At that time, in the field of plastic arts, there was a genre dispute between the purely beautified rococo court art and the realistic art reflecting the life of the civilian class. This contradiction is also reflected in the works of Hua Tuo, Boucher and Vla gunnar, whose works have realistic factors besides the dominant Rococo style. However, Hua Tuo was not only the embodiment of the fashion of his time. It was his dreams and ideals that started the rococo. His works are exquisitely decorated, and his fantasy is extremely abstract, which laid the foundation for the formation of Rococo art. Of course, Rococo style is more prominent and intense in the works of Boucher and Vla gunnar. Their pursuit of the truth, boldness and sensibility of the beauty of the senses became the interpreters of that carefree and luxurious era.

In the world ruled by Rococo style and court art, there are also artists, such as Xia Erdan and gruse, who reflect the interests and life of the emerging bourgeoisie. Xia Erdan is a master of still life painting and genre painting. His works are strong and solid in color, simple and natural in painting style, and have an elegant and simple beauty. However, influenced by Diderot, gruse's works are more focused on moral propaganda and preaching, but his style is somewhat contaminated with the noble taste and emotional appeal of Rococo painters.

British painting began its prosperous period from18th century. During the hundred years from the first batch of Hogarth's works to constable's death, a number of outstanding genre paintings, portraits and landscapes appeared in the British painting world. As the founder of English genre painting, Huo Jiasi's works, on the basis of drawing lessons from Dutch genre painting in17th century, incorporated his own national characteristics, giving his works sharper satire, thus reaching the creative level. His oil painting portraits are often rough and full of vitality. Reynolds and Thomas gainsborough were the most famous painters in the English portrait era in the second half of18th century. Reynolds is a representative of English academic school, and his portraits have a lofty realm like historical paintings, which lays the characteristics of English portraits. He especially likes painting innocent children. His pen is solid and vigorous, and his painting style is quite good. Thomas gainsborough's artistic features pay more attention to beauty and nature. He is good at drawing women and using colors, and likes to put characters in nature. His landscape works in his later years are as light as clouds, as smart as flash, with a kind of sadness and melancholy.
