Gan et al. first reported the research situation of seaweed fiber in China. As early as 198 1, the research group used spinning solution containing 5% sodium alginate to prepare calcium alginate fiber by wet spinning. It was found that the concentration of calcium ion in coagulation solution was diluted due to continuous consumption. For the convenience of control, when saturated calcium chloride aqueous solution is used as coagulation liquid, the optimum fiber strength is 0.44~ 1.76 cN/dtex after drying at 60℃ and 2 000 Pa.

Sun Yushan et al. studied the production technology of seaweed fiber in detail in 1990. The strength of the fiber obtained by wet spinning in gas medium reaches 2.67 cN/dtex. In order to improve the chemical stability of calcium alginate fiber, cellulose acetate, polyvinyl alcohol and chitin were used to coat the fiber. The fiber has certain chemical stability and can remain insoluble in physiological saline for two weeks.
