At first, it used 30 thin pieces of sandalwood as fan bones and pasted paper on them. Later it was changed to paste silk. As early as the 1920s, several workshops such as "Zhang Qingji" in Suzhou were famous for producing sandalwood fans. Today's Suzhou sandalwood fan is exquisite, rich, gorgeous and fragrant. It is made by more than ten processes, such as saw blade, assembly, wire drawing, pasting and painting, especially the decorative techniques of "four flowers" (drawing flowers, perm flowers, painting flowers and carving flowers). Pull flowers, that is, pull out ever-changing patterns on the fan bones, so that the fan surface is exquisite and light as yarn; Hot stamping, also known as fire painting and pyrography, burns a deep and light picture on the fan bone with a special fire pen; Carving is divided into shallow carving, relief carving, carving and so on. And carve figures, landscapes, flowers and birds or Bo Gu on the big bones; Painting flowers, that is, painting ladies, flowers and birds on silk surface, is colorful but not vulgar, rich and generous, and some still paint heavy colors on mud fans, which is even more dazzling.
