Biyang county has a long history and was called Biyang in ancient times. Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period and Korea in the Warring States Period. After the Western Han Dynasty, the Southern and Northern Dynasties and the Tang Dynasty, the county was established seven times, eight times and 15 times. Ming Hongwu was named Biyang in the 13th year. There are many human and natural landscapes in the territory, including Tongshanhu National Forest Park, AAA Tongshan Scenic Area, Pangu Mountain and Jiaozhu Garden, the former site of the Hubei-Henan Border Region Provincial Committee.

Biyang is one of the birthplaces of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and Huaihe River tributaries. There are many rivers, dense reservoirs and ponds, abundant precipitation and abundant water resources in the county. There are 153 rivers, most of which are upstream rivers. There are two first-class rivers, namely Biyang River and Ruhe River (Shahe River). Biyang River flows westward, belonging to the Yangtze River basin, and it is a perennial river. It is 74.3 kilometers long and has a drainage area of 1338 square kilometers.

Ruhe River flows eastward and belongs to Huaihe River Basin. The total length is 68 kilometers, and the drainage area is 1 1 165438 square kilometers. There are secondary rivers such as Liuhe, Magutian, Tianshui and Lianghe 19, with a total length of 463 kilometers.

Biyang River, the largest river in China, originates from the eastern foot of Baiyun Mountain, meanders southward, bends westward to Deng Zhuang, Tongshan Township, and flows into Songjiachang Reservoir together with the water from the north and south of Tongshan Mountain. The reservoir flows to the southwest, turns to the west after passing through Gaoyi, goes around the south side of the county to the west, reaches Duozhuang Town of Shewan Town, and joins the Tanghe River in Yuantan Town of tanghe county.
