Sun Bin's military thoughts are mainly concentrated in Sun Tzu's Art of War. Sun Bin advocated paying attention to and treating war with caution. He stressed that only with strong force as a guarantee can the country be stable and prosperous. At the same time, however, he opposed militancy, pointing out that victory in the battle could save the dying country, but failure would also lose land and endanger society.

The Warring States Period is a period of great change in the history of China after the Spring and Autumn Period. Qi became the first dominant vassal state in the Warring States period. When Taigong III passed it on, Wang Wei appointed Tian Ji and Sun Bin as generals, and Qi became powerful. After the Battle of Maling, Tian Ji was framed by Zou Ji, the Prime Minister, and forced to go into exile in Chu. Sun Bin resigned and retired, devoted himself to studying military theory, and finally wrote Sun Bin's Art of War.
Sun Bin's The Art of War, also known as Qi Sunzi, adopted Sun Bin's suggestion that it is too late to inherit the disadvantages of Wei. Wei fought fiercely with South Korea, and when Han Wei was exhausted, he once again took Tian Ji as the general and Sun Bin as the strategist to send troops to save South Korea. Sun Bin still adopted the strategy of encircling Wei to save Zhao, led the troops to drive the Wei territory, and the soldiers cooperated with the girders, thus winning the battle of Maling.
