Chu Yong, a rubber man in the Song Dynasty, was the first scholar. He got to know Weizhou through the official Jixian Academy.

Chu Peng Ling (1749- 1825), whose real name is Shao zu, is a native of Huang Bei village, Laiyang. After his grandfather Qing Qianlong entered imperial academy for four years, he moved to Haidi Village (now Nanqian Township) in Jimo. Forty-five years of Qianlong Jinshi.
