Metasequoia glyptostroboides (scientific name: Metasequoia glyptostroboides) is an ancient relict plant known as "living fossil". Its history can be traced back to the Miocene period about 25 million years ago. Metasequoia glyptostroboides is native to the mountainous areas in the south and southeast of China, mainly distributed in the Yangtze River basin and its surrounding areas.
2. Metasequoia fossils were first discovered in Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and other places in China. 194 1 year, Chinese scientists systematically studied Metasequoia glyptostroboides for the first time, named Metasequoia glyptostroboides, and the type specimens are kept in Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since then, the study of Metasequoia has gradually become an important field of botany in China.
3. Metasequoia glyptostroboides has unique morphological characteristics, with straight trunk, grayish brown bark, needle-shaped leaves and monoecious. Metasequoia glyptostroboides grows very slowly, generally about 1-2 cm per year. Due to the high requirements for its growth environment, the wild Metasequoia glyptostroboides resources are very scarce at present and are listed as national first-class protected plants.
4. In order to protect and study Metasequoia glyptostroboides, China government and scientific research institutions have established many Metasequoia Nature Reserves and research institutions in various places. The most famous is Wuhan Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan, Hubei. There is a special Metasequoia Garden in the park, which has planted Metasequoia varieties from all over the world, providing a good place for researchers and tourists to watch and study Metasequoia.
Planting method of Metasequoia glyptostroboides
1. Selection of planting environment. Metasequoia glyptostroboides likes warm and humid environment, and has a high demand for sunlight, but it needs proper shade in hot summer. Therefore, when choosing the planting environment, we should choose a place with sufficient light, good air circulation and good drainage. At the same time, Metasequoia glyptostroboides does not require much soil, but it grows best in loose, fertile and well-drained acidic soil.
2. Selection of planting containers. Metasequoia glyptostroboides has a well-developed root system, so it is necessary to choose a larger planting container to ensure that its root system has enough growth space. At the same time, the container should have good drainage performance to prevent excessive water from affecting the growth of Metasequoia glyptostroboides.
3. Selection of planting substrate. Metasequoia glyptostroboides is suitable to grow in fertile, loose and well-drained soil, and peat soil, perlite and vermiculite can be selected for preparation. In the preparation process, a proper amount of decomposed organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer can be added to provide nutrients needed for the growth of Metasequoia glyptostroboides.
