Taiyuan is the capital of Shanxi Province, the center of politics, economy, culture, education, science and technology, transportation and information in Shanxi Province, and one of the 22 megacities in China. Located at the intersection of China's three major economic belts, it plays a two-way supporting role in the country's opening-up and economic development layout, connecting the east with the west and connecting the north with the south.
