Jiangyin originally belonged to Suzhou, and after the liberation of Yixing belonged to Changzhou, Suzhou 1953, Zhenjiang 1956, Changzhou 1958, Zhenjiang 1960 and Wuxi 1983.

When Wuxi was upgraded from a county to a prefecture-level city, Jiangyin was given to them, considering that there was no Yangtze River port in Wuxi. Wuxi lacked natural resources, and Yixing gave it to them.

There is hope that Changzhou can return Caoqiao to Yixing.
