How is cotton made into thread?
In the old days, cottonseed was removed from the picked cotton, then the fibers in the cotton were loosened with an elastic bow, and then the elastic cotton was spun into cotton thread with a spinning wheel.

The yarn spun by the spinning wheel is the original material of ancient coarse cloth, which has a history of thousands of years in China and occupies an important position in the textile history of China. From picking cotton yarn to weaving on the machine, there are 72 processes, such as ginning, bouncing, spinning, threading, sizing, twisting, doffing, warping, brushing, heald making, breaking, drawing, lifting, tying, weaving and unloading.

Extended data

Cotton can be divided into three categories:

The first kind of fiber is slender and shiny, with a length of 2.5 cm to 6.5 cm, including high-quality sea island cotton, Egyptian cotton and Pima cotton. Long-staple cotton is low in output, labor-intensive and expensive, and is mainly used for high-grade gauze and knitwear;

The second category includes ordinary cotton of medium length, such as American upland cotton, which is about 1.3~3.3 cm in length;

The third type is short fiber cotton, the length is about 1 ~ 2.5cm, which is used to make cotton blankets and low-priced fabrics, or blended with other fibers.

Coarse wool cotton, native to India. Because of low yield and short fiber, it is not suitable for weaving and has been eliminated.

Long-staple cotton native to South America. It is characterized by long fiber and high strength, and is suitable for spinning high count yarn. The fiber is thin and long, with a length of over 33mm, a linear density of1.54 ~1.18 dtex (6500 ~ 8500 cm) and a strength of over 4.5cN.

Its excellent quality is mainly used for weaving high-quality cotton yarn finer than 10tex. There are few plants in China, except Xinjiang long-staple cotton, which is mainly imported from Egypt and Sudan.

Fine wool cotton, native to Central America, is also called American cotton. It has the characteristics of wide adaptability, high output, long fiber and good quality, and can be used to spin medium count yarn. Generally, the length is 25~35mm, the linear density is 2.12 ~1.56 dtex (4,700 ~ 6,400km), and the strength is about 4.5cN. Most cotton grown in China belongs to this category.
