Administrative divisions of Chizhou
By 20 19, Chizhou has 1 municipal district (Guichi District) and 3 counties (dongzhi county, shitai county and Qingyang County). Historical evolution of Chizhou

During the Xia and Shang Dynasties, there was no experiment about setting up a municipal interior area. According to the products of mountains and rivers, the Zhou Dynasty divided the world into Kyushu, and Chizhou belonged to Yangzhou. After the Qin Dynasty unified China, the county-level administrative system was implemented. Chizhou City belongs to Yanzhou County, and the southwest belongs to Poyang County of Jiujiang County.

In the Western Han Dynasty, most of the city belonged to Yan County at the beginning. In the second year of Han Yuanfeng (109), Yan County was changed to Danyang County, and now Guichi City, Qingyang County, Shidai County and most parts of dongzhi county belong to Danyang County. The southwest of this area-now dongzhi county-belongs to Poyang County and Hanyu County.

From the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Three Kingdoms, Chizhou belonged to Danyang County of Wu State. Danyang county belongs to Yangzhou.

Chizhou belonged to Xuancheng County and Yuchun County in Yangzhou during the Western Jin Dynasty and the Eastern Jin Dynasty. In the first year of Yuankang (29 1), Huidi in the Western Jin Dynasty changed Yuzhan County to Jiangzhou, and Chizhou belonged to Jiangzhou Zhang Yu County.

The Southern Dynasties (Song Dynasty) belonged to Xuancheng Prefecture in Yangzhou, then to Xuancheng County and Huainan County.

During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, Chizhou belonged to Yangwu first, and then to Nantang. In the second year of Southern Tang Dynasty (938), Chizhou was changed to Kanghua County.

Song was born in Chiyang County, Chizhou. Song History Geography: "Chiyang County, Chizhou, leads to the sixth county". In the third year of Song Zhidao (997), Chiyang County in Chizhou belonged to Jiangnan East Road, and Shaoxing belonged to Jiangnan Road in the early years.

In the 14th year of Yuan Dynasty (1277), Chizhou was upgraded to Chizhou Road, which was successively subordinate to Zhongshu Province in Jianghuai and Zhongshu Province in Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

Chizhou in Ming Dynasty was Jiuhuafu, Huayang, Chizhou and Zhili Nanjing successively.

1May 1965 to1June 1980, Chizhou District was re-established and directly under Anhui Province.

1June 1980 to1August 1988, Chizhou District was abolished, and the counties under its jurisdiction were merged into Anqing District, Xuancheng District and Huizhou District.

1August, 988, Chizhou area was rebuilt, belonging to Anhui province.
