Achievements of Zhuanglang Terrace Construction
Brilliant achievements of modern social and economic development-6,543,800 mu level terraced fields built by 400,000 sons and daughters of Zhuanglang after more than 30 years' efforts. This soil and water conservation project, praised by experts as "the world's leading project", has made Zhuanglang, an arid county in Gansu Province 18 and one of the 40 key poverty alleviation counties in China, a "terraced demonstration county in China". Zhuanglang Terrace Zhuanglang, which means "the place where bison haunt" in Tibetan, is now the first county of terraced fields in China. Located in the southeast of Pingliang City, Gansu Province, between the mountains and mountains at the west foot of Liupanshan Mountain, the mountainous hills account for 95% of the total area. I have traveled all over Zhuanglang landscape, green fields and blue sky, terraced fields, surrounded by forest belts, and fish leaping and birds singing. But it used to be a national poverty-stricken county with poor land and inconvenient transportation. The course of the construction of Zhuanglang terraced fields is the pioneering history of the industrious Zhuanglang people's self-improvement, tenacious struggle, struggle against nature and challenge their destiny.

Since 1998, Zhuanglang has been named the first "Terrace Demonstration County" in China by the Ministry of Water Resources and awarded the title of "National Advanced County in Ecological Environment Construction" by the State Forestry Administration. In August, 2002, Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China held a report on "Zhuanglang Spirit-Rebuilding Beautiful Mountains and Rivers" in the Great Hall of the People. Experts from more than ten countries, including Japan, Israel and the United States, visited Zhuanglang Terrace, calling it a "miracle of the world". Hu Yaobang, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, wrote the inscription "party member takes the lead in fighting for heaven and land" when he visited Zhuanglang on 1986, and Jiang Chunyun, former vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), wrote the inscription "Fools move mountains and build terraces" in Zhuanglang. In the third cultural relics survey in Longdong, Zhuanglang terraced fields were included in the category of national cultural heritage protection. Zhuanglang County is located in the middle of Gansu Province, at the west foot of Liupanshan Mountain, with a total area of 1500 square kilometers. The county has deep valleys, steep soil and harsh ecological environment. Since the 1960s, under the leadership of successive county committees and governments, Zhuanglang people have rebuilt mountains and rivers and built terraced fields. Thirty years later, with a pair of hands and shovels, they built a million acres of horizontal terraces and forged the "Zhuanglang Spirit" which is famous all over the country. Terrace construction has greatly improved the ecological environment of Zhuanglang and increased grain output. 1996, the county's total grain output reached 162600 tons, with an increase of more than 240 kilograms per mu.

From 65438 to 0998, Zhuanglang's great feat of building terraced fields was reported on the front page of People's Daily, which aroused widespread concern at home and abroad. In the same year, Zhuanglang County was named "National Terrace Demonstration County" by the Ministry of Water Resources, and the terrace project was rated as "international leading level" by well-known experts at home and abroad, and was called "world miracle" by Chinese and foreign people. In order to further promote the "Zhuanglang Spirit", Zhuanglang County invested 2.5 million yuan in 2007 to build a 523-square-meter "China Terrace Model County Memorial Hall" with modern style. In the same year, it was named "Pingliang Patriotism Education Base" by Pingliang Municipal Committee. In 2008, the famous Zhuanglang Terrace was recommended by the Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau to declare the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
