Jiujiang is located in the northernmost part of Jiangxi Province, on the south bank of the Yangtze River. It is the second largest city in Jiangxi Province, the sub-central city in the province, the sub-central city in economy, politics, culture, science and education and commerce in Jiangxi Province, the dual-core city in Jiangxi Province, the top ten port cities in the Yangtze River, the top ten charming cities in China, and the famous and excellent tourist city in China, and is known as the "North Gate of Jiangxi". Jiujiang is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Kowloon Economic Belt. It is a regional central port city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and one of the first five cities in China to open to the outside world along the Yangtze River. Known as "the mouth of the three rivers, the thoroughfare of seven provinces" and "the land of the eyebrows".
Two-thirds of the largest freshwater lake (Poyang Lake) in China is located in Jiujiang, where the world cultural landscape heritage (Lushan Mountain) and the birthplace of Pure Land Sect (Tolin Temple) are located.
