The 33G 1 submarine is the first submarine to launch cruise missiles in China, and it is also the only submarine to launch cruise missiles on the water. The added missile is the "Eagle Strike 8" anti-ship missile. 33G 1 is a modified boat based on Type 33 submarine. Three box-type missile launchers have been added to the port and starboard of the superstructure, and great changes have taken place in the superstructure of the ship, which greatly reduced the already low underwater speed and economic endurance of the Type 33 submarine.

Due to the need of missile launch, automatic anemometer, azimuth level and firing command system for mines and bombs were added, and radar was modified. 33G 1 The submarine modification design was completed in 1978, started in Wuchang Shipyard in/980, delivered to the navy in July/983, and successfully launched missiles at sea in 1985.
