During the Qianlong and Jiaqing years of the Qing Dynasty, governors such as Horqin Left Wing Houqi and Zhongqi successively recruited people to reclaim wasteland, causing a large number of poor farmers in Shandong and Hebei to leave their homes and flee to Kanto. In the north of Changtu Fucheng 100 Li, there is a small place that was originally unknown. After more than ten years of merchants' circulation, it has inadvertently become a well-known business distribution center around it. This place is called Siping Street, which is the old Siping town today.
There are different opinions about the causes of Siping Street. One theory is that Siping Street was originally a market, with Banlashan Gate in the east, Bamiancheng in the west and Bamiancheng in the south. ? Lushu, which reaches Fenghua County (Lishu City) in the north, is between 40 and 50 miles away, and the terrain is empty and flat, just like Ma Pingchuan. People call it Siping Street. According to the Records of Changtu Prefecture compiled by Xuantong in Qing Dynasty, "The distance between the road and the lane is close, hence the name." However, in folklore, there is another saying that in the 19th year of Qianlong (1754), Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty visited Jilin through the old Siping area, and when he saw that the terrain was flat and endless, he exclaimed, "What a land of Siping!". The emperor has a golden mouth and jade teeth. After the village was formed here, people called it Siping. Later, it became a market, and then it was upgraded to Siping Street.
The geographical location of Siping Street is really special. Before the early years of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1898), the railway had not been built, and the traffic at that time was mainly land. Changtu Prefecture, as the first prefecture outside the wicker boundary, has jurisdiction over Fenghua County (now Lishu County), Huaide County (now Gongzhuling City), Kangping County and Liaoyuan Prefecture (now shuangliao city) in addition to the prefecture directly under its jurisdiction. Due to the geographical location of Fucheng, Changtu Prefecture has only three official roads. One is a transit highway, from Zitazi, a small town in Kangping County, to Fenghua County via Sanjiazi, Xinlitun, Jinjiatun, Baolitun, Dawa and Bamiancheng. One is from Fucheng to the west to Tongjiangkou Wharf; One is to go out of the city and cross Xinglong ditch and Xinglong spring. ? From Lushu to Siping Street. Siping Street is located in the northern edge of Changtu Prefecture, bordering Lishu City and Fenghua County in the north, and bordering Liaoyuan Prefecture and Huaide County in the northeast and southeast respectively. It is the trade center of this area and enjoys a high reputation.
In the 24th year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1898), Russia forced the Qing government to sign the Eastern Railway Renewal Contract and decided to build a railway branch line from Harbin to Dalian, commonly known as Nanman Railway. Starting from Kuanchengzi (Changchun), there is a stop every 30 kilometers, passing through Fan Jiatun, Gongzhuling and Guojiadian, and now Siping is only the fifth stop. At that time, Siping called five stops. When was the fifth stop renamed Siping? Why did you change your name to Siping? So far, historians have not found many written records. According to the "Local Records of Changtu Prefecture" compiled in the second year of Qing Dynasty (19 10), "After the completion of Nanman Railway, merchants moved to the fifth station in Fenghua County, still following the old name of Siping Street, which has a sense of being a city." According to the record of Changtu Fuzhi, the name of Siping Street in the fifth station should be 19 10 years ago, because Siping Street was close to the fifth station at that time and was an important commercial town. It is an indisputable fact that Siping Street changed from its reputation at that time, and it is also recognized by historians. According to online news, there is a book called "Interesting Talk on Siping Street" written by a Japanese named Iwaki Ando. According to him, he arrived in Siping after the Russo-Japanese War on 1905, and saw a stop sign written in Russian in the stationmaster's office. The name of the stop sign is Siping Street. If it is true, it shows that before the Russo-Japanese War, the Russians changed Siping City from five stops to Siping Street Station today.
After the five stations were changed to Siping Street, they coexisted with Siping Street in Changtu for quite some time. When and why Siping Street in Changtu Prefecture was renamed Old Siping Street is not accurately recorded in Changtu Records.
In the "Changtu County Records" compiled in the fifth year of the Republic of China, the old Siping was still called Siping Street, but for today's Siping City, it is sometimes called Wuzhan and sometimes Siping Street. In the second year of the Puppet Manchukuo, in the Continuation of Changtu County Records and Territorial Articles compiled by Kant, Old Siping was also called Siping Street. However, it is recorded in the Continued Chronicle of Changtu County that when the election of urban and rural councillors was held in the first year of Qing Dynasty, the site of the provident fund agency where Lao Siping was located was called Lao Siping Street, which is the first time that the title of Lao Siping Street appeared in Changtu local chronicles. Another example is the continuation of the district and village system implemented in 19 years of the Republic of China in Changtu County Records. County 10 District 100 Village, and the old Siping area is an equal village. The location of the village office is also called Old Siping Street. To sum up, Siping Street should be renamed Old Siping Street after five years of the Republic of China. As for the "Continuation of Changtu County Records", Siping Street was renamed Lao Siping Street in 19 years of the Republic of China or earlier in the Qing Xuantongyuan year. It should be wrong for later compilers to use the appellation at that time to describe the historical place names.
The reason why Siping Street in Changtu was renamed Old Siping Street is very simple. After using the place name of Siping Street, the fifth stop has become a new trade distribution center with increasing fame because it is located in the railway trunk line, with convenient transportation and merchants gathering. However, there are two Siping streets within a distance of less than 10 km, which brings a lot of inconvenience to traffic, production and life. In order to distinguish the two Siping streets, the original Siping Street in Changtu was changed to the old Siping Street.
When did the street characters in Old Siping Street get rid of? Due to the lack of historical materials, it cannot be found. But Siping Street has always been called the Northeast Liberation War. 1June, 947, when the Kuomintang merged Siping Province and Xing 'an Province into northern Liaoning Province and determined Siping Street as the capital of northern Liaoning, the street word was removed, which was called Siping City for short. So far, we can only guess whether the street characters of the old Siping Street are also simplified.
In fact, Siping is the most famous of the four wars in the Northeast Liberation War. Let's talk about it later!
