Chaoyangmen to Tongzhou
The road from Chaoyangmen to Tongzhou is the main road for people, grain and goods to enter Beijing, and it is also the only way for the emperor to pay homage to Dongling and visit Jiangnan.
In the Qing Dynasty, for the convenience of emperor's travel and transportation, three stone plank roads were built outside Beijing, also called Imperial Road. These three roads are Chaoyangmen to Tongzhou Shiyu Road, Guang 'anmen to Lugouqiao Shiyu Road, Xizhimen to Shiyu Road, namely "Three Mountains and Five Parks".
In the Qing Dynasty, Yong Zhengdi decided to build the road from Chaoyangmen to Tongzhou into a stone road in order to complete the tasks of transporting grain, touring Dongling and touring the south of the Yangtze River.
This road was built twice in the seventh year of Yongzheng (1729) and the twenty-second year of Qianlong (1757). It starts from Chaoyangmen in the west, passes Guanxiang, Chaoyangmenwai Street, Dongqiao, Hongmiao, Balizhuang, Shilibao, Sanjianfang and Baliqiao, and reaches the west gate of Tongzhou. This stone road is now Chaoyangmenwai Street and Chaoyang Road.
