Alexander von Humboldt (1769—1859) was born in a noble family in Germany. 1789 studied at the University of G? ttingen, studying Latin, botany, physics, linguistics, archaeology and so on. During this period, he met George Ford who had just returned from Captain Cook's voyage around the world. Under his influence, he became interested in geography and discovered the Peruvian cold current for the first time (once called Humboldt cold current, but later renamed it because of my opposition).
