The main Mahayana classics I list a few:
The Sutra of Lengyan at the top of Buddha, the Sutra of Lotus, the Sutra of Huayang at the Generous Broad Buddha, and the Sutra of Mahayana with Infinite Life.
..... the rise of Mahayana Buddhism.
Mahayana Buddhism is an important religious movement within Indian Buddhism, which has had a far-reaching impact on the development of Buddhism. But the history of its rise in India is not clear. Modern scholars believe that its rise is probably from the century before the era to the century after the era. If we trace back to the source, we can push it back to the century after the extinction of the Buddha. At that time, Buddhism was divided into eighteen or more schools, each with its own specific teachings. Among them, 1 1 is regarded as conservative and orthodox; This orthodoxy was later called "Hinayana". Seven other schools led by Mahasanghika showed a more open attitude. This popular department is the origin of Mahayana Buddhism.
Ideologically, the Mass Department criticizes the narrow ideal of the conservative Arhat, and on the other hand, it plays an empty role, thinking that the real Buddha is transcendental, and Sakyamuni in history is only his manifestation. They also put forward the ideal personality of Bodhisattva, believing that Bodhisattva Taoism is feasible for everyone.
The ideological characteristics of a school are closely related to the real reasons for its rise. But we can't know much about the real reason for the rise of Mahayana Buddhism. But e. Conze thinks that two things can be sure. First, arahant's ideal has reached the end of its tether; The second is the pressure of believers at home. Regarding the first point, the ideal of being born expressed by Arhat has gradually lost its charm after the Buddha destroyed the Buddha for three or four hundred years, and fewer and fewer monks have achieved this goal. Instead, it is the ideal of bodhisattva. On the second point, people are becoming more and more important, even with Buddhism. Monks who become monks no longer enjoy the right to be respected and valued alone. Among the believers at home, there are also many outstanding figures, and Vimalakīrti in the classic is an obvious example. The religious significance of Buddhism can no longer be confined to monks and monasteries. Believers at home began to take an active part in various religious activities. (Note 1)
With the development of religion, this idea gradually matured. From the first century to the third century, many Mahayana classics appeared one after another. The Prajna Paramita Sutra first appeared, followed by Vimalakīrti Sutra, Prajna Paramita Sutra and Ten Classics. This is represented by the Prajna Sutra. At first, this book was gradually increased from a small amount to a large series around the seventh century. His emptiness thought is generally regarded as the basic doctrine of Mahayana Buddhism.
Later, naga Juna, who was born in South India, developed this empty thought in philosophy. He wrote The Mean-Carrica and Vig Havia Vattani, criticizing the Hinayana fallacy of the school, and established the concept of the Mean, named it Origin, Pseudonym and Emptiness.
Dragon Tree appears as a Mahayana classic, such as Mahayana-Nirvana-Sutra, Slimala-Sinhanada-Sutra, Samadhi-Nirvana-Sutra and Shurangama Sutra. Among them, Maitreya, Asanga, Vasubandu and others developed epistemology, which were respectively expressed as Mahayana -sutralamkara, Mahayana Amgraha and thirty ode to knowledge. Its main purpose is to explain world phenomena with knowledge.
I don't know which the first Mahayana classic should be, not necessarily the Huayan Sutra. "For a time, the Buddha was enlightened at Alano Dharma Bodhi Field in Mojiti Kingdom." One day, the Buddha was finally enlightened at Alarufa Bodhi Dojo in Mojiti Kingdom. In fact, there are many scriptures that mention the word "temporary", such as "temporary, the Buddha only gave the tree to sraffa's lonely garden and stayed with all the monks. . . . This passage is from the Amitabha Sutra, which should be translated as "One day, the Buddha gave a lecture to all monks in a place called Zuo Shu, in the Silent Garden in sraffa".
Mahayana classics include Shurangama Sutra, Hua Yan Sutra, Shurangama Sutra, Prajna Paramita, Prajna Paramita, Hokkekyo, King Argo, Treasure Collection and so on.
Amitabha, good wishes are one!
