The Historical Evolution of Wuhan, Hubei Province
Wuhan has a long history. As early as 8,000-6,000 years ago in the early and middle Neolithic Age, our ancestors flourished in this water network and used stone tools to expand ancient civilization. Panlongcheng, located on the Panlong Lake in huangpi district, was founded in Shang Dynasty with a history of about 3,500 years. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Jiangbei was successively called Quyang County, Anyang County, Hanjin County and Hanyang County (606), and Jiangnan was successively called Runan County and Jiangxia County (589). From the Han Dynasty to the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, Wuhan became a land and water transportation hub, and merchants gathered. During Chenghua in the middle of Ming Dynasty, the main road of Hanshui River, which entered the river from GuiShan Zhinan in Hanyang, changed from the north of the mountain to the river, forming Hankou New City, laying a geographical foundation for the three towns in Wuhan. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Hankou, Li Zhuo, a commercial town in central China, was called "the four famous towns in the world" together with Beijing, Jiangsu and Buddha, and "the most prosperous place in Chu" together with Zhuxian Town, Jingdezhen and Foshan Town. In the fourth year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1665), the Qing government set up a "long pavilion" at Baiyi Temple outside Hanyang Gate, and levied a domestic goods pass tax. In the seventh year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty (1857), the official documents of Governor Huguang were divided into Zongguan (now Shangcha Temple in Hankou), Hanguan (now Xiacha Temple in Hankou) and other 10 tax collection checkpoints. 1858 After the Tianjin Treaty was signed, Hankou was turned into a foreign trade port. 1861March, Hankou officially opened to the outside world. After Hankou was opened to the outside world, Governor Huguang said in a document that the government set up Jianghan Pass on 1 month 1862, and formally levied tariffs the following year. In the 25th year of Guangxu (1899), Xiakou Temple was located in the north of Hanshui River, which is now Hankou. At this point, Hankou, Hanyang City and Wuchang City are collectively called "three towns". From 65438 to 0889, after Zhang Zhidong became the governor of Huguang, he promoted the "New Deal" of Westernization in Han, set up factories, schools and trained new troops. As a result, the development of national industry laid the foundation for the development of modern industry in Wuhan, making Wuhan one of the birthplaces of modern industry in China.
