Since its establishment, the Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology has followed the policy of "protection first, rescue first, rational utilization and strengthening management" and strictly performed the duties of investigation, excavation, rescue, research, protection and assistance of immovable cultural relics in the province, and guided the cultural protection work of cultural relics departments in cities and counties. It has completed the investigation of cultural relics protection before the construction of Liujiaxia Reservoir, Lan Xin Railway and Baozhong Railway, and the investigation of Xifeng North Grottoes and Wushan water curtain cave Grottoes. To Qin 'an Dadiwan Site, Dunhuang Maquanwan Site, Tianshui Fangmatan Site, Dunhuang Xuanquanjia Site, Wuwei Baita Temple Site, Lingtai Baicaopo Western Zhou Tomb, Chongxin Yujiawan Tomb at the beginning of the Zhou Dynasty, Dunhuang Qijiawan Tomb, Dunhuang Foye Temple Tomb, Anxi Dry Lake Tomb and Kiln Site, Wushan Xihanping Tomb, Lixian Dabaozi Mountain, and Xiaoqiushan Qin Cemetery. The excavation of major sites and tombs such as the Golden Tomb of Bijiatan in Yumen Flower Sea and the investigation of the beacon tower of the Han Great Wall in the province, among which the excavation of Xuanquanjia site was once rated as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in China by 199 1. In addition, it is also engaged in national and provincial infrastructure projects, such as roads, railways, water conservancy, airports and west-to-east gas transmission.
