Known as "the first male pass in the world", the Western Pass was built by Sheng Feng, the founding general of the Ming Dynasty. At that time, Sheng Feng, the general of the Western Expedition, led hundreds of thousands of troops to conquer the remnants of the Yuan Dynasty. In the first battle of General Xu Da, and the casualties of Lieutenant Li Wenzhong were comparable to those of the enemy, Sheng Feng led the army to defeat the Yuan Army in several wars and almost eliminated the remnants of the Yuan Army. On the way home, in order to keep the recovered lost land and enhance the ability to resist foreign invasion, General Feng began to build a pass relying on favorable terrain.
The location of Jiayuguan is very clever, which makes future generations admire General Feng's excellent strategic vision. The wall of Jiayuguan stretches for dozens of miles, and the buildings inside and outside the city are also very distinctive, which shows the great wisdom of the ancients. Jiayuguan city is bounded by Qilian Mountain, where the Qifeng rises and connects with the first pier of the Great Wall. The north is connected with the rolling Montenegro, and the actual distance between the two mountains is very small, only about 15 km. Jiayuguan, relying on the dangerous terrain, has become the most important pass at the westernmost end of the Great Wall of Ming Dynasty, and it is also the throat of the whole Hexi Corridor. The walls on both sides of Jiayuguan pass across the desert, which is a natural barrier against foreign invasion.
Throughout the ages, Jiayuguan has experienced countless wars, large and small, but most of them rely on favorable terrain to resist enemies hundreds of miles away. From resisting the sneak attack of the remnants of the Yuan army in the early stage of construction to the invasion of Russia by the Qing Dynasty, it can be regarded as outstanding military achievements and left a name in history. Now it has become one of the famous scenic spots in Gansu Province. Jiayuguan is not only admired by later generations, but also a valuable historical wealth of our great nation.
