The origin of the Hu family?
Hu (Hú) is a surname of China people, ranking 13 according to the proportion of Hu's surname in the national population, and 158 among hundreds of surnames. According to historical records such as Yuan He Shi Cuan, the origin of Hu's surname can be traced back to the Yao descendants of Yu Shun, an ancient sage. Shun, also known as Chongming and Zhonghua, is the eighth grandson of the Yellow Emperor. Born in (now Fan County, Puyang City, Henan Province), surnamed Yao. Many derivatives of Yao surname appeared in the pre-Qin period, such as Chen, Wang, Hu, Sun, Yu, Tian, Yuan, Feng and Lu, all of which came into being in this period. Before Shun was chosen as Yao's successor, Yao asked Shun to move to Gui River to inspect him, so some descendants of Shun took the river where they lived as their surname. The Shang Dynasty wrote in Shiben: "After Yu Siyao's surname, Ji Bo took a straight handle and revived it, sealing it in Chen, thinking it was shun." ; According to Records of the Historian and Zuo Zhuan of the Zhou Dynasty, Zuo Zhuan assisted Qi Huangong for twenty-five years: "I was born as a Zhou, and my father served my former king. My former king relied on his sharp weapon, and after his gods, he prepared three things, so that he could be a vassal with his daughter Tai Ji." After Zhou Wuwang destroyed Zhou Wang in Shang Dynasty and established Zhou Dynasty, he found Gui Man, the 34th descendant of Shun, and made Gui Man a vassal. Feng Guochen (now Huaiyang County, Henan Province), known as Hu's ancestor, was a descendant of Yu Shunyao, one of the Three Emperors and Five Emperors. His land was sealed more than 3,000 years ago. Hu Gongman is the son-in-law of Yao Shun's thirty-third generation grandson, and he was named Chen Hou. From then on, Kamei was called Chen because he was sealed in Chen, and the country he founded was also called Chen. Later, his descendants took Hu as their surname, which became the origin of Hu surname of Han people. It can be seen that Hu's ancestors in China are descendants of Yu Shun Yao and the Yellow Emperor. Hu also has two country names from ancient times to the present. Two countries in the Zhou Dynasty had beards. One is in present-day Henan, a vassal state with the same surname of the Zhou Dynasty, which was enfeoffed at the beginning of the Western Zhou Dynasty. It joined the allied forces led by Chu to attack Wu, and later attacked Wu with Chu. On the way back to the division, the State of Chu annexed Hu. Another state of Hu, Guixing, was destroyed by Chu during the reign of Lu. After these two Hu perished, the descendants of the royal family all took the original country name as their surname, forming two Hu families. In the Hu family, there has always been a family with a compound surname of Hu. It has been more than 2,480 years since Qi Xuanwang was given the Hu mother's compound surname. Hu Fu's surname was also very popular at first. In the Qin dynasty, there was a great teacher, Hu Muzun, and in the Han dynasty, there were Hu Mu students and Hu Muban. After Jin Dynasty, Hu Fu's surname was gradually replaced by the word "Hu". Because most of his descendants changed their surnames to Hu, the spread of Hu's mother's compound surnames decreased day by day. This is probably one of the reasons why this Hu mother's compound surname is still rare. Among the Hu surnames, in addition to this branch that originated from the descendants of the Yellow Emperor, many foreigners changed their surnames to Hu. After the Han Dynasty, especially during the Five Rebellions in China, foreigners who entered the Central Plains changed their surnames to Hu, adding new elements to the Hu family of the Han nationality, which led to the later Hu's reproduction and another lineage.
