The Legend and Name Origin of Xiaogan
According to legend, in the first year of Xiao Jian in the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 454), the county was named "Xiaochang" because of the prosperous filial son.

In the second year of Tongguang in the later Tang Dynasty (AD 924), Li, because of the name of "Chang" in Xiaochang County, violated his grandfather's taboo. Therefore, according to the story of selling his body to bury his father, fan quilt and Meng Zong crying bamboo shoots, the dutiful son changed Xiaochang County to Xiaogan County, which is the origin of Xiaogan's name.

Xiaogan is a regional central city in Hubei Province, an important member of Wuhan City Circle and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, a national comprehensive experimental zone for new urbanization, one of the most potential and competitive cities in central China, and its comprehensive competitiveness ranks among the top six in Hubei Province.

The development of history

195 1 years ago, Xiaogan had jurisdiction over 9 counties: Xiaogan, Lishan, Yingshan, Anlu, Yunmeng, Yingcheng, Huangpi, Huang An (now Hong 'an) and Suixian (now Suizhou). After June, Hanchuan and Hanyang, which were originally under the jurisdiction of Mianyang Society, were placed under Xiaogan Society, and Yingcheng Mining Area People's Government (county level) was established at the same time. At this time, there are 12 county governments under the jurisdiction of this institution.

1952 0 1, Daye Department was revoked, and seven counties in the south of the Yangtze River, such as Xianning, Wuchang, Puyin, Jiayu, Chongyang, Tongshan and Tongcheng, which were originally Daye, were placed under the jurisdiction of Xiaogan Department. In June, Xiangyang Department went to the county. In September, Huang An was placed under Huanggang Department, and Lishan County was changed to Dawu County.

After the land was withdrawn and the city was established, the newly established prefecture-level Xiaogan City implemented the administrative management system with the city as the county, directly under the jurisdiction of Xiaonan District, under the jurisdiction of four counties including Xiaochang, Dawu, Yunmeng and Hanchuan, and under the custody of three county-level cities including Guangshui, Anlu and Yingcheng.
