Introduction to the School of Liberal Arts
The School of Liberal Arts is one of the oldest departments of Shanxi University. Its history can be traced back to 1902 when the Shanxi University School was founded as a junior high school. After a century of construction, the College of Liberal Arts has now become a training base for basic research talents and applied talents in language and literature in Shanxi Province. Currently, it has five undergraduate majors: Chinese language and literature, journalism, teaching Chinese as a foreign language, drama, film and television literature, and advertising. Ancient Chinese literature and Chinese philology have the right to confer doctoral degrees. The Drama, Film, and Television Literature major is affiliated to the School of Liberal Arts. This major is an art class with the main research direction of the creation, theory, and practice of drama, film, and television. As an undergraduate major, our school was among the first to offer this major among comprehensive universities across the country. In 1996, this major enrolled students in our province for the first time. The professional courses include more than 20 courses: Introduction to Art, Film and Television Aesthetics, History of Chinese and Foreign Film and Television, Introduction to Directing, Film and Television Creation, Appreciation of Film and Television Works, and Documentary Program Creation.
The drama, film and television literature major trains students to systematically master the basic theories and creative abilities of drama, film and television directors. Through four years of undergraduate professional study, students will become professionals in TV stations, film production institutions, cultural companies, and party and government agencies.
