I am a second-year undergraduate student at the Conservatory of Music. I want to study in Japan for graduate school. Please help me.

The application process for music majors:

1. Undergraduate examination

1) Academic ability test: National and public universities generally require taking the international student examination (such as Tokyo University of the Arts) If you take the Japanese Language Comprehensive Subject of the International Entrance Examination, you do not need to take the math test). The requirements of private universities are not uniform. Some require Japanese language examination, some require Japanese N2, and some directly take the Japanese language examination on campus. For details, please refer to the admissions brochure (recruitment requirements) on the official website of the university you are applying for. There is basically no English requirement.

2) Art test (taking Tokyo University of the Arts as an example):

3) Interview, which mainly tests students’ Japanese language proficiency, basic knowledge, admission planning, adaptability, etc. inspection.

2. Master's degree examination

Each professional direction has different examinations, some require a portfolio, and some do not. There is no need to take the TOEFL TOEIC test in English, but a few universities (such as Nihon University) will have English tests, and Tokyo University of the Arts does not have an English test.

Notes:

1. If you are taking the undergraduate examination, regardless of any English scores, it is recommended to go to a language school regardless of your Japanese level. But language schools are only used to strengthen Japanese, take the international student exam, and make it easier to apply for university.

2. If you want to take the master's degree exam, there is a college English level 4 that can handle it (do not trust any institution to provide English TOEFL and TOEIC training). Japanese language and professional course skills are very important. Depending on the application direction, some require a portfolio, which needs to be prepared in advance. If you have a basic foundation in Japanese (such as N1 or N2) and want to apply for a public university, it is recommended to apply for a graduate degree (preparatory course for a master), but it is more difficult. If you have no Japanese foundation, it is recommended to go to a language school first and then take the master's degree exam.

3. Language schools and private schools basically do not provide guidance for music majors. If they say they do, please identify them carefully.
